Cover Spreads created by Tessa Schmitt
ABC Down on the Farm: The first book in the author's new Come Learn with Me! series. The purple banner was a large discussion, as it will appear on every book's cover that is in the series. A different concept was accepted for printing, but this was a strong contender with the hand-drawn banner. As a whole, the concept was geared towards readers 0-3, so we wanted a fun yet easily identifiable font. We also used thee primary colors to re-emphasize the young age group and that this is a learning concept book.
Canning Full Circle: Adjustments were made from the first edition's cover spread, with input from the author and her original designer. Circles were greatly emphasized as it is a well-rounded book and it plays well with the name. Green was a focal color to emphasize the health aspect of canning and cooking one's food and lots of imagery was added to show what is inside without the buyer having to open the book. The spine is clear and eye catching among a sea of other cookbooks.
The Insider's Guide to Engineering: Another cover spread which is an update from its first version. Compared to the first, it is cleaner with emphasis on the photo and term engineering. Gears were added for interest elsewhere, but the author wanted a very simple cover that was well-engineered. The spine is very eye catching and will stand out to buyers, even with its small width.
Tales from the Clubhouse: As this book reminisces on baseball stars of all decades, we utilized an almost-baseball-card-look to drive home the reminiscent feeling of the stories. The back cover uses lines reminiscent of a baseball's threading as well to keep on theme. The orange offers great contrast to the navy blue and white to create interest.
As if by Magic: A complete design by Tessa Schmitt. The colors match back to Bird's high school colors and the images show the best of him during his beginning years. The concept is effective with well-written back copy and an eye catching title layout.
